Brotherhood of Health

Real stories. Real men. A community built on courage, culture, and the commitment to live longer.

You Are Not Alone

Health is not a solo journey. When men share their stories — their fears, their victories, their turning points — something powerful happens. Silence breaks. Stigma fades. And other men find the courage to take that first step.

The Brotherhood of Health is not a formal organisation. It's a concept. It's the idea that Afro-Caribbean and African-American men can support each other in wellness the same way we support each other in sport, music, and community. It's the belief that talking about your prostate, your diet, your mental health, and your habits is not weakness — it's leadership.

Stories from the Brotherhood

My father passed from prostate cancer at 61. He never got tested. I got my first PSA at 44 because of this portal. My results were fine — but now I have a baseline. That's priceless.

I grew up on rice and peas, fried chicken, and heavy stews. The pescetarian recipes here showed me I don't have to give up my culture to eat better. I'm down 12kg and my energy is through the roof.

— Jerome, 50, Atlanta

The 'Talk to Your Doctor' checklist was a game-changer. I walked into my appointment with actual questions instead of just nodding along. For the first time, I felt in control of my own health.

— Anonymous, 53, London

I had a PI-RADS 3 on my MRI and I was terrified. Reading the prostate health page calmed me down and helped me understand what the number actually meant. The biopsy came back clear.

— Anonymous, 58, Montego Bay

My wife sent me the link to this portal. I wasn't going to look at it. But the founder's story hit me — I saw myself in it. Now I'm cooking jerk salmon every Sunday and my boys love it.

— Patrick, 46, Manchester

The herbal tea routine changed my evenings. Green tea replaced beer most nights. Chamomile before bed. It sounds small but my sleep improved dramatically — and so did my mood.

— Anonymous, 49, Toronto

Let's Talk About It

In many of our communities, health conversations happen in whispers — if they happen at all. But the most powerful changes start with honest, open dialogue. Here are some conversations we're encouraging:

  • "Have you been tested?" — Making PSA discussions as normal as asking about a football score
  • "What are you eating?" — Sharing meals and recipes that support long-term health
  • "How are you really doing?" — Checking in on each other's mental and emotional health
  • "Let me tell you about my experience" — Breaking silence through personal storytelling
  • "I'm making changes" — Announcing your health commitments to your circle creates accountability

"When one man speaks, he gives another man permission to listen. When one man acts, he gives another man permission to follow."
